Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) helps visualise the biliary & pancreatic system. The scan includes Pancreas, Pancreatic duct, Bile ducts, Gallbladder and Liver. It is used to evaluate disorders related to health conditions, such as gallstones and pancreatitis.

What is an MRI scan?

How long does an MRI scan take?

How does an MRI machine looks like?

The MRI scanner looks like a large doughnut having a motorized sliding table. The specific part of your body undergoing the scan will be positioned at the center of the tunnel.

What is a contrast injection?

Certain MRI studies require better visualization for accurate diagnosis. Contrast agent highlights the particular organ/part of the body and is easily flushed out with a urine secretion. It is administered orally & intravenously also.

Who cannot have an MRI scan?

MRI is considered safe as there are no harmful ionizing rays involved. However, since the scan is carried out in a highly magnetic area/ room, it may not be suitable for persons having any kind of body implants, fabricated in steel, or metal having magnetic susceptibility. In the last few years, MRI-compatible body implants are also being used.

Can pregnant women have MRI scans?

While there is currently no evidence of harmful effects, it is generally recommended to avoid conducting MRI scans on pregnant women. However, in certain urgent or critical situations where an alternative invasive diagnostic procedure would otherwise be required, an MRI scan during pregnancy might be necessary. It is crucial to consult your doctor and seek their guidance before undergoing an MRI scan if you are pregnant.

What’s the difference between a 1.5T and a 3T MRI test?
