Clarity When You Need It Most — Accurate Imaging for Better Health

Diagnostic imaging is the cornerstone of modern medicine. When you're experiencing unexplained pain, monitoring a precious pregnancy, or investigating an internal condition, the accuracy of your ultrasound scan dictates the effectiveness of your treatment. Millions of conditions — from kidney stones to fatty liver and fetal abnormalities — rely on sonography for a definitive diagnosis.

The good news: ultrasound is completely safe, painless, and radiation-free. A single USG scan is all it takes to give your doctor a real-time, highly detailed view of your internal organs and tissues.

Karauli Diagnostics brings Varanasi's most advanced sonography technology — delivering high-resolution 3D/4D imaging — to our four strategically located centres. The same advanced imaging used in top hospitals is available near you, interpreted by expert MD radiologists.

Clear images. Precise diagnosis. Better health.

What is an Ultrasound (USG) Scan?

Simple, Safe, Vital

An ultrasound scan — also known as sonography or USG — is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of your body. It is the preferred imaging technique for evaluating soft tissues, internal organs, and monitoring pregnancies because it involves absolutely zero ionising radiation.

During a USG scan, a handheld transducer probe sends sound waves into the body. These waves bounce off organs and tissues, returning echoes that are translated into highly detailed, real-time images on a monitor. Our MD radiologists analyze these images to provide a precise diagnostic report.

Types of Ultrasound Procedures

Scan Category Common Uses
Abdominal USG Liver, Gallbladder, Kidneys, Pancreas
Obstetric USG Pregnancy monitoring, Fetal Anomaly
Pelvic & TVS Uterus, Ovaries, Prostate, Bladder
Specialised Thyroid, Breast, MSK, USG-Guided FNAC

Doppler Ultrasound is a specialized technique used to evaluate blood flow through arteries and veins.

Why Ultrasound is Critical

  • Provides a real-time view of moving organs and blood flow
  • Identifies cysts, tumours, and structural abnormalities
  • Guides minimally invasive procedures like biopsies (FNAC)
  • Crucial for monitoring fetal development safely
  • Detects gallstones, kidney stones, and liver disease
  • Safe — uses no ionising radiation (unlike X-rays/CT)
  • Painless and non-invasive
  • Quick — 15 to 30 minutes total

Ultrasound ek basic lekin sabse zaruri diagnostic test hai — jo body ke internal organs ki sahi sthiti batata hai.

How to Prepare for Your Ultrasound

Preparation varies by the type of ultrasound. Follow these guidelines to ensure the clearest possible images:

Pelvic, KUB & Early Pregnancy

  • Full Bladder Required: Drink 4 to 6 glasses of water approximately 1 hour before your scan.
  • Do not empty your bladder until the scan is complete.
  • A full bladder pushes the bowel out of the way, providing a clear acoustic window to the uterus, ovaries, and prostate.
  • For TVS (Transvaginal Scan), you will be asked to empty your bladder right before the procedure.
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing.

Abdominal & Gallbladder USG

  • Fasting Required: Fast for 6 to 8 hours prior to your examination.
  • You may drink clear water, but avoid juices, milk, or carbonated beverages.
  • Avoid eating heavy, fatty, or gas-producing foods the evening before the scan.
  • Fasting ensures the gallbladder is fully distended and reduces bowel gas, which can obscure images.
  • Do not chew gum or smoke before the test.
No Preparation Needed: For ultrasounds of the Thyroid, Breast, Scrotum, MSK (Joints), Level II Anomaly, or Doppler studies, no specific fasting or bladder preparation is required.

Conditions Diagnosed & Managed with Ultrasound

Abdominal & Urinary Conditions

  • Kidney stones (Nephrolithiasis)
  • Gallstones and Cholecystitis
  • Fatty liver (Hepatic steatosis)
  • Liver cirrhosis and Hepatomegaly
  • Hydronephrosis and Renal cysts
  • Appendicitis and Intestinal issues
  • Pancreatitis and Splenomegaly
  • Bladder wall thickening and Urinary retention

Frequently Asked Questions — USG Scan

What is an ultrasound scan and is it safe?
An ultrasound (USG) scan uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. It is completely safe and painless. Because it does not use ionising radiation (like X-rays), it is perfectly safe for pregnant women, children, and regular monitoring.
Can I eat or drink before an abdominal ultrasound?
For a whole abdomen or upper abdomen scan, you must fast for 6 to 8 hours beforehand. Fasting prevents gas buildup and ensures the gallbladder is full, allowing the radiologist to see your organs clearly. You may drink clear water, but no milk, tea, or juices.
Why do I need a full bladder for a pelvic ultrasound?
A full bladder acts as an "acoustic window," pushing the bowel out of the way and allowing the sound waves to travel clearly to your uterus, ovaries, or prostate. You should drink 4-6 glasses of water about an hour before your scan and avoid urinating.
How long does a Level II Anomaly Scan take?
A Level II Anomaly scan is a very detailed examination of the fetus performed around 18-22 weeks of pregnancy. Because the radiologist must check every organ system, this scan typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the baby's position.
When will I receive my ultrasound report?
At Karauli Diagnostics, we value your time. The images are interpreted by our expert MD radiologist immediately, and the detailed report is typically provided on the same day.
