A panoramic OPG X-ray captures your entire jaw, all teeth, sinuses, and jaw joints in a single wide image — the essential starting point for any dental or oral surgery treatment plan. Available at 4 centres across Varanasi.
An OPG — short for Orthopantomogram — is a specialised panoramic dental X-ray that captures a wide, sweeping image of your entire upper jaw (maxilla), lower jaw (mandible), all 32 teeth, and the surrounding bone structures in a single, comprehensive image.
Unlike a standard intraoral dental X-ray that images 1–2 teeth at a time, an OPG gives your dentist, oral surgeon, or orthodontist a complete bird's-eye view of your entire dental architecture — all teeth, roots, surrounding bone, both jaw joints (TMJ), and the sinus cavities — in a single image captured in just 10–15 seconds.
The OPG machine rotates around your head while you stand still, tracing a 180° arc to capture the panoramic image. The result is a flat, wide-format X-ray film that shows all teeth simultaneously.
Remove metal: Jewellery, glasses, hearing aids, hairpins, and removable dental appliances (dentures, retainers) interfere with the image.
Positioning: Stand in front of the OPG machine. Our technician positions you with a chin rest and bite piece to stabilise your head.
Scanning: The machine arm rotates slowly around your head in a 180° arc. You feel nothing — it's completely painless.
Report: The digital image is ready in seconds. Our MD radiologist provides a comprehensive written report.
The word "panoramic" comes from the Greek pan (all) + horama (view). An OPG is literally an all-encompassing view of the mouth — capturing everything from ear to ear and from the sinuses above to the lower jaw below, in one wide, flat image.
An OPG is far more than a "dental X-ray" — it provides a comprehensive view of a wide range of anatomical structures.
Every tooth on both upper and lower jaws, including their crowns, roots, and root canal anatomy.
Tooth buds in children, unerupted permanent teeth, and impacted wisdom teeth hidden under the gum.
The bone supporting the teeth, assessed for bone loss, fractures, cysts, tumours, and osteoporotic changes.
Both temporomandibular joints evaluated for arthritis, abnormalities, and TMJ disorder.
The large air sinuses above the upper teeth assessed for sinusitis and sinus floor proximity.
The nerve canal running through the lower jaw, critical for planning lower wisdom tooth removal.
Dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, and maxillofacial specialists across Varanasi routinely refer patients for OPG scans before any significant dental procedure.
To check developing teeth, assess orthodontic needs, and evaluate wisdom teeth before they cause issues.
Essential before implants to measure bone and locate nerves, or before dentures to check residual bone.
For patients with jaw clicking, locking, pain, or after an accident to check for fractures.
